The Skellig Quartet was formed in 2017 for the West Cork Chamber Music Festival. Brendan, now beginning the Masters in Music Performance at CIT Cork School of Music with Gregory Ellis, is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, where he studied with Leland Chen. David completed his BMus at CIT Cork School of Music, pursuing an Erasmus year in Lille, France and is continuing his studies with Ruxandra Petcu-Colan also on the Masters programme in CSM. Anthony has been a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and has recently completed a Masters Degree at CIT Cork School of Music with Simon Aspell. Cormac Ó Briain studied with Christopher Marwood at CIT Cork School of Music and will be continuing his studies with Prof. Jelena Očic at Amsterdam University of the Arts.

The Red Abbey String Quartet is made up of four exciting young string players at CIT Cork School of Music and makes its debut in this concert. Kevin Jansson, a student of Ruxandra Petcu Colan, was joint winner of the 2015 NCH Young Musicians’ Award and has performed as soloist with the RTE Concert Orchestra, CIT CSM Chamber Orchestra, Cork Youth Orchestra and Dublin Symphony Orchestra. Kate Fleming is a scholarship student at CIT Cork School of Music where she studies violin with Eithne Willis. She is a member of the Cork Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland. Séamus Hickey studied violin with Adrian Petcu and Siun Milne at CIT CSM and in the Conservatoire de Nantes with Constantin Serban. He studies viola with Simon Apell at CIT CSM. Zoë Nagle is a student of Christopher Marwood at CIT CSM. She has won several prizes at national competitions and is a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland.

The Triskel Autumn Quartet series presents a second debut performance, this time of The Vanbrugh, with guest pianist Michael McHale. This new group will be performing many of the great works of the piano quartet repertoire in this series, at UCC’s FUAIM concert series, at the National Concert Hall and in a national tour, supported by the Arts Council. The three string players, former members of the Vanbrugh Quartet, need no introduction to Cork audiences; Belfast-born Michael McHale is one of Ireland’s leading pianists and has developed a busy international career as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician.
