Music by Mendelssohn, Shostakovich and more
Natives of Cork, the members of the Hydra Quartet started playing together in the summer of 2015. An invitation to the West Cork Chamber Music Festival last month saw them give a number of performances as well as playing in public masterclasses with such renowned ensembles as the Vanbrugh, Borusan and Kelemen Quartets. In late July, the quartet was joined by clarinetist Sophie Creaner for concerts in the Skibbereen Arts Festival, Inchigeelagh Summer Festival, St. Barrahane's Church Festival of Music, North Cork Music Festival and the Sirius Arts Centre Programme. This series of concerts was generously supported by Cork County Council. Upcoming engagements include a recital at the Triskel Arts Centre this autumn as part of its Saturday Lunchtime Concert series.
