An Old Song, Half Forgotten [2023]
Performed by the Esposito Quartet
Triskel Christchurch, Cork, 12th October 2024
This set of pieces comes from the 2023 play “An Old Song, Half Forgotten” by playwright Deirdre Kinehan, a co-production with SoFFt productions and the Abbey Theatre.
An Old Song, Half Forgotten opens a window into the life and soul of an older actor who is living in care with Alzheimer’s disease.
When a visiting string quartet play, the music summons a suite of glorious characters and moments from his life, allowing him to revel once again in his great loves and losses, whilst conjuring up a smashing vision of his younger self.
The movements follow a broken train of recollections, from childhood friends in Islandbridge, to early successes in his acting career, meeting his wife, and coming to terms with the inevitable fading of these memories so dear to him.
