Katherine Hunka
Into the Clear Air [2025]
Performed by the Solas Quartet
Triskel Christchurch, Cork, 22nd November 2025
This piece written for the Solas string quartet uses fragmented pieces of the haunting theme of “The lark in the Clear Air.” I have always loved this traditional tune, originally known as the Tailor’s song. It was later set to words by poet Samuel Ferguson. The words speak of a soaring soul, love and hope. Into the clear air is a tribute to this gorgeous tune, inspired by the idea that we, like the lark, can soar and spread our wings. Move into new pastures, into the clear air.
